You’ll develop strong foundations in both traditional and modern barbering, including:

• Sectioning patterns
• Classic and contemporary cutting
• Scissor-over-comb and clipper-over-comb techniques
• Clipper work and detailing
• Beard and moustache trimming
• Straight razor shaving
• Finishing and styling

You’ll also build the professional skills that support long-term success:

• Client consultation and care
• Shampoo and basin services
• Scheduling and time management
• Employability skills
• Developing and retaining a client base

By the time you graduate, you’ll have real client experience and a clear understanding of how barbershops operate.

Training takes place in a simulated barbershop environment, with the majority of learning delivered hands-on. You’ll be guided by experienced educators who understand current industry expectations and who support you as you build both technical precision and professional confidence.

You’ll leave ready to step into a professional barbershop environment and contribute as part of a team.

The Certificate III in Barbering includes 800 nominal hours and is delivered as a full-time course in line with student visa requirements.

• 12 months (three days per week)
• 9 months (four days per week)

From 2025, new full-time students attend three days per week (Monday, Thursday and Friday), unless otherwise arranged.

Classes run from 9:45 am to 5 pm and are delivered across our Fitzroy and Melbourne CBD campuses.

International students must meet attendance and course progress requirements in accordance with visa conditions. Our team will explain these clearly before enrollment so you feel confident about what’s involved.
