FAQs

Can I visit the campus before enrolling?

Yes. You can contact the Fitzroy campus to speak with the team or arrange a visit to learn more about the facilities and training environment.

What if I’m not sure which pathway is right for me?

You can contact the BIBA Academy Student Services team or submit an enquiry form. They can talk through your options and help you decide whether the certificate pathway or an apprenticeship is the best fit.

What career opportunities are available after graduating?

Graduates are prepared to work in professional salons or barbershops. Many employers specifically seek stylists trained through BIBA Academy due to their practical experience and industry-ready skills.

When can I start?

BIBA Academy accepts monthly enrolments, allowing students to begin throughout the year.

Will I work with real clients during training?

Yes. Students gain practical experience working with real clients in BIBA’s training salons under the guidance of experienced educators.

Do international students receive government funding?

No. Government funding and Austudy are only available to eligible domestic students.

Is government funding available?

Eligible domestic students may access Skills First funding, which can reduce the cost of the course. Apprenticeships are also supported by Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

Can international students enrol?

Yes. BIBA Academy is an endorsed provider for international students and offers nationally recognised qualifications that meet CRICOS requirements.

Where are classes held?

Training takes place across BIBA Academy’s Fitzroy and Melbourne CBD campuses.

What are the class hours?

Classes run from 9:45 am to 5:00 pm.

What’s the difference between the certificate pathway and an apprenticeship?

The certificate pathway is campus-based training where you study at BIBA Academy and work with real clients in a simulated salon environment. An apprenticeship combines employment in a salon or barbershop with structured training at BIBA Academy.

How long does the course take to complete?

Course duration depends on how many days per week you attend. Hairdressing can be completed in approximately 13 to 21 months, while barbering typically takes 7 to 12 months.

Do I need to find a job before starting?

Only apprentices need to secure employment with a salon or barbershop before enrolling. Students enrolling in the certificate pathway do not need to have a job before starting.

How much of the training is practical?

Around 80% of the training is hands-on, working with real clients in a salon-style environment. The remaining 20% focuses on theory through demonstrations and guided learning.

What qualification will I receive?

All pathways at BIBA Academy lead to a nationally recognised Certificate III qualification. Students graduate with either a Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416) or a Certificate III in Barbering (SHB30516).
