BIBA Academy’s Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416) is government accredited and Austudy approved, helping make the course more accessible for eligible students.


Through practical, client-based training, you’ll prepare for real salon work in a supportive, professional environment.

You’ll build confidence in cutting, colouring and styling, while developing the communication and time-management skills needed to work at a professional level on the salon floor.

What you will learn

What you will get

You’ll graduate ready to work at a professional level, with real client experience and the confidence to step straight onto the salon floor.

Around 80% of your training is hands-on, working with real clients in a simulated salon environment. The remaining 20% focuses on theory, delivered through live demonstrations and guided learning to strengthen your technical foundation.

Throughout your training, you’ll be guided by experienced educators who understand what today’s salons expect, supporting you to develop strong skills alongside professionalism and client care.

Government funding may be available to eligible applicants under Skills First.

Class schedule

The Certificate III in Hairdressing includes 1,005 nominal hours and can be completed over:

  • 21 months (three days per week)
  • 16 months (four days per week)
  • 13 months (five days per week)

Classes run from 9:45 am to 5 pm.

New full-time students attend three days per week (Monday, Thursday and Friday), unless otherwise arranged.

Training takes place across our Fitzroy and Melbourne CBD campuses.

4.
Funding

Skills First funding is available to eligible students.

As of 1 January 2023, upskilling is no longer an eligibility requirement. This means students do not need to enrol in progressively higher qualifications to access Skills First funding.

Eligibility limits still apply, including:

  • Two skill sets per year
  • Two AQF qualifications per year
  • Two courses at one time
